Should the Leafs sell high on William Nylander?

William Nylander is on fire right now. In his past eight games, he has eight goals, seven assists, and fifteen points. In his past five games, he’s got six goals, five assists, and eleven points. With 19 goals on the season, he is already just three goals away from his career-high of 22, with 40 games in hand.

He’s well ahead of his career-high pace in points per game, on pace for 74 over the course of a full 82-game season – 13 more than his totals in 2017 and 2018. He’s in the Top 20 among NHL forwards in 5-on-5 points, and in score-adjusted Corsi.

Finally, William Nylander looks like the player that many have hoped he would be for years. But you have to ask the question – does it make sense to, with his value at the highest that it’s been, sell high on the young Swedish winger? Perhaps to make some additional cap room, or pursue a top-pair, right-handed defenceman? Let’s dive into it.

Absolutely Not

Well, now that we have that settled, I hope you enjoy the rest of your weekends. Lots of Leafs and Marlies action ahead over the next few days, and the final games of the World Juniors as well – don’t hockey yourself out too much!
