Heading into today, the Toronto Marlies were starting to get a little crowded along the blue line. Not the good kind of crowded, where you can pull players in and out as needed, game plan for specific situations, and work on individual development, but the kind where you end up stuck with nearly an entire second lineup sitting in the press box, looking for something to do, when you don’t really have a ton of players that you’d like to miss time.

Specifically, the Marlies had eleven defencemen on their roster. That’s a staggering amount, especially when you consider that the Leafs have eight up top right now. Something had to give, and this afternoon, something did, as the team released Ryan Sproul and Kyle Cumiskey from their Professional Tryouts.
